my player is registered. now what?

Q: When will I hear from my player's coach?
Your player(s) will be assigned to a team in early August. Your contact information will be provided to their new coach at the Coaches Meeting on August 12th in the Prescott Public Library's Founders Suite A&B.
For 6U, coaches should reach out the week before/of the start of the season.
For 8U - 16/19U, coaches should reach out by the first week fields open for practices (week of August 24th).
For Playground/Schoolyard, the Program Director will reach out the week before the start of the season.
If you haven't heard from a coach by the designated time frame above, contact us!

Q: How are teams split up?
Teams are first split by age division, then by gender (6U - 12U). The AYSO Region 172 Board Members then balance teams based on the skill level and Player Ratings from the previous year. A lot of time and care is put into ensuring teams are as evenly balanced as possible!

Q: Can I choose a coach for my player?
No. There is no guarantee that your player will be placed on a specific team. You may request not to have a specific coach.

Q: Can my player and their friend be placed on the same team?
No. There is no guarantee that your player will be placed with a specific teammate. You may request for your player to not be on the same team as another player.

Q: Can I request a practice time or day?
Yes. Although practices times and days are chosen by the coaches, we will do our best to accommodate a practice request. Please keep in mind, not all requests can be honored. The cut-off for practice requests is August 24th.

Q: What equipment does my player need?
Players are provided with a uniform consisting of a jersey, shorts, and socks. Uniforms are given to coaches to be handed out at the first practices (8U and higher) or at the first games (EPIC, 6U and lower). Players are required to have shin guards and tennis shoes (soccer cleats preferred; no baseball cleats or shoes with toe cleats). Players will also need to bring a soccer ball in the correct size (Playground/Schoolyard and EPIC will be provided). Visit the CORE Program page for more details.

referee faqs

Q. How do I become an AYSO Referee?
Register as a volunteer on ayso172.org and choose "Referee" from the list of volunteer roles. The training to become an AYSO referee is provided to you free of charge. Note: All volunteers must register annually, even if they no longer have kids in AYSO.

Q. Is prior soccer experience required to officiate?
No, but some familiarity with soccer is certainly a plus. Coaches, parents, players, and other volunteers have all proved to be excellent referees even if they have not played this sport. (Youth referees are welcome!)

Q. How are referees assigned to games?
Once you are a certified AYSO referee, you will be assigned games based on your availability and according to the needs of the region. AYSO referees are volunteers and do not get paid.

Q. Where do I get referee gear and equipment?
Upon completion of your referee training, a uniform kit will be issued to you. For official shirts, shorts, socks, patches, flags and other equipment, stop at the Referee Tent on Saturdays.

Q. I’m already a Regional Referee, when should I try to become an Intermediate Referee?
Referees should be able to easily upgrade to the Intermediate level by their third year.
