ABOUT AYSO REGION 172

AYSO Region 172 has been in Prescott for 49 years!

Your local AYSO has been a part of your community for almost 5 decades.
On June 20,1977, we became a Pilot Program testing if we could offer and sustain youth soccer in the Prescott area.
On December 27,1977, we became a Chartered Member of AYSO.
We have strived to offer the very best and largest youth soccer organization in the Prescott area, running a fun, fair, and safe developmental-focused program for children ages 4 - 18.

Nationally Certified Coaches
Every volunteer coach is nationally certified in age appropriate training.  From Playground all the way to 19U, we make sure that our coaches have resources and training available to make them the best they can be. It's more than just a parent volunteer, it's a trained and supported position.

World Class Soccer - Our program has something for everyone!
• Even the little ones can play! Our Playground division gives a fun soccer experience that develops fundamental motor skills.
• Our recreational league in the Fall season brings players together, and develops a positive soccer attitude.
• The Spring Academy is a skills specific program that produces great individual benefits.
• After the Fall Season ends, our try-out based Tournament teams travel in and outside Arizona to compete at a higher level of play.

Focus on Player Development
Winning isn't everything and it shouldn't be. On any given set of games, only half or less will walk away with a win. We focus on the more important aspect of the beautiful game - Player Development. Every AYSO player plays at least 1/2 of a game. This means that your child won't be riding the bench and never getting touches on the ball. It also means we encourage each player to explore the various positions of a soccer team. In AYSO, we build fully rounded soccer players, not Left Defensive Backs or Right Midfielders.

Volunteer Screening
Every volunteer within AYSO, from Team Manager to Regional Commissioner is background checked against a national database.  We take the safety of our children seriously.  AYSO's Safe Haven program outlines procedures that are taken on the field to prevent physical injuries, and precautions that are taken off the field to ensure children and volunteers are safe in their interactions with each other.   Safe Haven is a program that has been put in place to protect AYSO players and the volunteers who serve them. It requires that each AYSO volunteer agree to a background check and take in-person or online training that’s focused on the best ways to work with children and important safety protocols.

Kids Zone
In AYSO, we want all players, coaches, families and volunteers to have fun. That’s where Kids Zone comes in. Kids Zone is a program that encourages fans on the sidelines, and anyone else near the play, to use positive language, show sportsmanship in their attitude and behavior, and create a great experience for every player. It’s a reminder that the soccer fields are a kid’s zone – a friendly, happy, wholesome place for children to play.

AYSO REGIONS

AYSO Regions are community-run soccer programs, essentially local soccer clubs. They can have less than a hundred players or several thousand! Each Region is run by a volunteer Regional Commissioner and a volunteer Regional Board. Regions are responsible for recruiting volunteers to coach and referee, running practices and games, finding and allocating field space, facilitating registration, managing finances, and parent communication.

AYSO Regions are commonly referred to as our Core Program. Teams are formed and match schedules created by player age groups. Our programs run from 4U (3 year olds) to 19U (up to 18 years old). Training sessions and match days are set by the local volunteers who run the program.

AYSO PROGRAMS

AYSO’s Player Pathway allows for players of all ages and skill levels to develop and progress within the game of soccer, as a team and as individuals.
